Glade is a collection of songs about home and the second full-length release from Colorado-born guitarist, singer, and producer, Courtney Hartman. Written in the span of a year following her return to a childhood home, the songs emanate from a place of quiet and sifting out. After leaving the east coast and the stage for a time, Courtney spent two years living with family, rebuilding the barn where she made a home, and recording soundscapes and melodies in the early, dark hours of morning. As the songs took shape, she brought in a handful of friends to contribute sounds from a distance including percussion from Shane Leonard, Jason Burger, and Tobias Banks, harmony from Gregory Alan Isakov and violin from Russell Durham. Glade is a slow simmer; intimate and churning, ready to hold your heart and ears.

BRIGHT AT MY BACK Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) Do not let the light in I’m not ready for the sight Let the dark linger Hold a morning star Gentle in the night I will lie beneath her Be my comfort Be my company Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Pull away the mute Covering my ears Let me hear you whisper Breaking the silent Stillness of the year How long have we stood there Be my answer Be my humbling And let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning You are the sky everything else is weather No reason why anything else should matter You are the sky everything else is weather No reason why anything else should matter So let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back I am returning Let the light shine bright at my back

Moontalk 03:11
MOONTALK Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) Holy, holy, holy I’m wide awake Standing out in the middle of the yard Holding, holding, holding my arms up high Like I think that the clouds are gonna part Don’t fall asleep I wanna talk to you Open, open, open the floor up to waltz When sitting still feels too hard Hoping, hoping, hoping we haven’t drifted too far Don’t let this one pull us apart Don’t fall asleep yet Don’t fall asleep I wanna talk to you While the moon is talking too Carry, carry, carry my body outside When I get too weak, too weak to walk Hurry, hurry, hurry we haven’t got much time Before we pass this whole thing off Don’t fall asleep yet Don’t fall asleep I wanna talk to you While the moon is talking too The moon is watching over you watching over me She doesn’t know a thing about our jealousy and greed She cannot find the borderline, she don’t conquer and divide She’s running all red and white, she don’t turn in for the night Don’t fall asleep Don’t fall asleep yet Don’t fall asleep yet Don’t fall asleep I wanna talk to you While the moon is talking too

Wandering 02:57
WANDERING Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) Your generous heart changed me Listening to the songs you sing About loving, imperfectly But loving just the same Singing, we can make a life of being free We can make a life of you and me We can make a life of wandering And the wandering doesn’t have to happen alone I had begun to lose my hope Feeling like I was gonna choke And thinking life was a cruel joke I want to think a better way That we can make a life of being free We can make a life of you and me We can make a life of wandering And the wandering doesn’t have to happen alone Honeypie come inside A rhythm of yours fits a rhythm of mine And we can take all our time I’m not running away And we can make a life of being free We can make a life of you and me We can make a life of wandering And the wandering doesn’t have to happen alone Laying on the floor at the back of auditorium Crying again at the end of every chorus Singing it over and over Let me know I was made to be a lover And we can make a life of being free We can make a life of you and me We can make a life of wandering And the wandering doesn’t have to happen alone
4.
Home Remedy 04:02
HOME REMEDY Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) This is not the ending Only far as the eye can see And I am beginning To know what paralyzes me Will you care for my body? And I’ll care for you the same? Be my slow home remedy Be my slow home remedy Be my home You ask if I am ready To be living further north And when my lungs get heavy With the cold wind off the shore I’ll care for your body Will you care for me the same? Be my slow home remedy Be my slow home remedy Honey be my slow home remedy Be my home Hands cupped together You have captured my curiosity Hold through this weather Don’t let the water slip from between I’ll care for you honey Will you care for me the same? Be my slow home remedy Be my slow home remedy Be my slow home remedy Be my slow home remedy Honey be my slow home remedy Be my home

Marrow 03:14
MARROW Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) These are days of disarray and they are golden They hold a bitter taste but sweetness lies within them These days passing slowly, thick like honey Let it run over, let it run over me Love is the marrow Love is the marrow Love is the marrow In our bones These days I’m up at night to catch a silence Turn my face up to the sky to be astonished These days when the heart is heavy with hearsay of the morning Let it break over, blue is breaking over me Love is the marrow Love is the marrow Love is the marrow In our bones When I do not have the words to ease the tension Soothe your mind or mend the hurt Oh when there is nothing Know that if I had the words to ease the tension Soothe your mind or mend the hurt Oh I would use them all Love is the marrow Love is the marrow Love is the marrow In our bones
6.
When I Wake 04:38
WHEN I WAKE Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) Let the day be simple Let me my words be kind Let all these questions Begin to unwind Throw out these anxious Birds to the wind I want to be patient I wanna know how to forgive When I wake, let this be my song When I wake, this will be my song This will be my song, this will be my song Let laughter fill up Our lungs til they swell And we let go of All of these grievances held When worry takes our Our thoughts in her hand We’ll go out walking Until we can see straight again When I wake, let this be my song When I wake, this will be my song This will be my song, this will be my song Magpie’s making up a home inside the wall up above my head When I wake in the night I hear them talking and I don’t know what is said This is much how the world can feel like so much I cannot understand All this fearful talking insanity in the hearts of everyone And every morning when I am waking up I hear the magpie’s in the wall They are talking about something I don’t know about at all But they sing their song when the night comes for the hole up in that wall And they sing their song when the light dawns for their home up in that wall When I wake, when I wake When I wake, this will be my song This will be my song, this will be my song This will be my song

Hideaway 03:21
HIDEAWAY Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) Speak only facts to me I can take them now Pull out the vaguery from my mouth No more indulging in useless doubt I’m only carving the good bits out This was a summer of sifting through But I’m the best of me when I’m with you What were the songs we sang out of tune Like shadows dancing around the room Strung up our moments one to the next Hung them like prayer bells around my neck And I’ll ring them out on nights like this I’m overcome by restlessness When the weather clears I’ll show my face again Maybe I won’t be so afraid of my own skin But til then I’ve gotta hide away in the foothills Don’t try to find me, don’t try to find me Don’t try to find me, don’t try to find me Don’t try to find me, don’t try to find me This was a summer of sifting through But I’m the best of me when I’m with you String up our moments one to the next Ring them prayer bells around our necks

HAVE WE LANDED Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) Oh my love do not cry Though the light falls behind Run the distance of this night Hold me tender, hold me tight Have we landed, have we landed? See the hills upside down Look like rolling waves of sound Hear a moan coming out From somewhere deep underground Hold my hand love, hold my hand love. If the rain buries me Turning every shade of green Take me to a hive bees And they’ll make something and sweet Of my body, of my body. Know I am not terrified So my love do not cry Run the distance of the night Hold me tender, hold me tight Have we landed, have we landed?

Turning 05:21
TURNING Courtney Hartman, BMI (Reckoner Publishing ) There you are making your mark Bringing something beautiful into the world There you are bruised in the heart Still I see you turning, turning back to the field Can you climb up the mountain with your hands open wide? A heart that burns like yours does could pull rain down from the sky There you are making your mark Bringing something beautiful into the world There you are bruised in the heart Still I see you turning, turning back to the field Can you climb up the mountain with your face up to the sky? When the stillness comes over let it open you up wide There you are making your mark Bringing something beautiful into the world There you are bruised in the heart Still I see you turning, turning Still I see you turning, turning Still I see you turning, turning Still I see you turning, turning Still I see you turning, turning Still I see you turning, turning back to the field

GLADE: A natural opening or a passage made, a place left unfrozen,
